Pawn Stars’ Richard ‘Old Man’ Harrison Dies at 77 (VIDEO)

The History Channel show “Pawn Stars” has suffered a devastating loss, with the passing of one of its beloved cast members.

Early this morning, Richard Harrison, known affectionately as the “Old Man,” passed away at the age of 77. A fan favorite on the show for his curmudgeon attitude and dry humor, Harrison often spared with his son Rick, who managed their Las Vegas pawn shop, and could never relate to the younger employees, including his grandson Corey Harrison and employee “Chumlee.”

Harrison was a Navy veteran and founded the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in 1988, later moving it to Vegas, where its popularity earned them a reality show in 2009. “Pawn Stars” became one of the most popular programs on cable television and made the Harrisons household names.

Fox News reports on Rick Harrison’s announcement of his father’s passing.

“Richard Benjamin ‘The Old Man’ Harrison passed away this morning surrounded by those he loved. He will be tremendously missed by our family, the team at Gold & Silver Pawn and his many fans the world over,” Rick Harrison told Fox News. “He was my hero and I was fortunate to get a very cool ‘Old Man’ as my dad. That I got to share him with so many others and they got to see what a great family man he was is something I am grateful to have experienced with him. He lived a very full life and through the History television show ‘Pawn Stars’ touched the lives of people all over teaching them the value of loving your family, hard work and humor. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers and ask that we are provided some privacy at this time.”

His grandson Corey Harrison also released a statement. “I was lucky enough to spend 15 years of my life working with the old man. He wasn’t just a grandfather, he was truly a best friend as well. I’m truly blessed to have had him as a mentor.”

Although they were not openly vocal about their politics, the Harrisons are Republicans and endorsed Marco Rubio during the 2016 election cycle.

In this recent interview, Harrison discussed his passion – old cars. He had a vast collection, as the show often featured them.

Our condolences to the Harrison family and friends on their loss.
