Tom Hanks’ Mr. Rogers Movie Gets First Official Image

We have our first official look at the new movie about Mr. Rogers, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

Directed by Marielle Heller and written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, the movie tells the true story of one writer’s encounter with Fred Rogers, and how it changed him.

Here’s the official synopsis from TriStar Pictures:

Two-time Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

Tom Hanks had previously released this photo of himself on the set.

Now, we have the first official still from the film itself, featuring Tom Hanks and Matthew Rhys.

Mister Rogers (Tom Hanks) meets journalist Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys) in TriStar Pictures’ A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood opens October 18.
