WATCH: The Final ‘Dark Phoenix’ Trailer Has Arrived
We’re getting one last look at the latest X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, as the future of the movie franchise remains in question.
With the sale of Fox to Disney, the X-Men are back under the complete control of Marvel Studios. That could mean some big changes for the X-Men movie saga that began back in 2000.
Based on John Byrne’s classic comic book storyline, the film follows the evolution of Jean Grey’s (Sophie Turner) powers, which are turning her into a threat to her fellow X-Men. As the Dark Phoenix trailer shows, that threat appears to cost at least X-Man their life, as a funeral is shown.
There has been speculation that the doomed character is Raven/Mystique, as actress Jennifer Lawrence has indicated her intent to retire from the role.
The film was originally supposed to open last year, but reshoots pushed the film’s release twice, finally settling on June 7.
