Supergirl moves to The CW for Season 2!
In recent weeks, fans of “Supergirl” have waited anxiously on word of the show’s renewal. Solid but unspectacular ratings and a large budget put a second season in jeopardy. Although CBS passed on a second season, “Supergirl” is still alive, thanks to The CW, who stepped in to pick up the show. That now means “Supergirl” will join its DC Comics brethren “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” on the network.
The move will likely mean a budget cut to the extensive special effects budget, but it does open the possibility of more crossovers with the other DC shows. However, how much of a crossover will take place remains to be seen. In this season’s much heralded Flash/Supergirl crossover episode, it was established that Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl exists in a parallel Earth in the multiverse, and not the same one as Arrow, Flash, and the Legends. It would stretch even comic book logic to constantly have the heroes jump back and forth between worlds, although The Flash has made good use of that recently.
