IHOP Gets ROASTED on Twitter by Burger Restaurants Over Its IHOB Stunt
In case you missed it, the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) has changed their name – at least for now – to IHOB, with the “B” standing for burgers.
It’s a push to bring more attention to their burger offerings for lunch and dinner, as the restaurant dominates only during the breakfast rush.
The burger market is pretty saturated, so the competition lashed back on Twitter at what they saw as a mere publicity stunt.
Here’s the initial Twitter announcement.
Dear Internet, we abbreciate your batience. Now let’s see who guessed right. B-hold!!!!! #IHOb pic.twitter.com/Fh3SkZ7s3Y

Wendy’s led with the savagery.
Remember when you were like 7 and thought changing your name to Thunder BearSword would be super cool?
Like that, but our cheeseburgers are still better.— Wendy's (@Wendys) June 11, 2018
Can't wait to try a burger from the place that decided pancakes were too hard.

Not really afraid of the burgers from a place that decided pancakes were too hard.

We see you too, A&W.
Inspired by the International House of Burgers announcement, we are also changing our name (Please do not ask what it means — we don’t know either.) pic.twitter.com/0HPQtQirHn

Burger King took it a step further, adding a new logo and Twitter name.
sorry, old Burger King can’t come to the phone right now…

Chili’s just got mean.
We don't usually throw shade, but seriously? That's what all that was about? Here's a real burger for you. #ChilisBoss #IHOb pic.twitter.com/eTVmtd9vir

We do make some pretty delicious Crispers and Waffles but we didn't change our name to Waffle's.

Steak ‘n Shake took a swipe as well.
.@IHOb A replica by definition cannot be as good as the original. The original #Steakburger was created by Steak ‘n Shake in 1934.

Texas-based Whataburger joined the mockery.
As much as we love our pancakes, we'd never change our name to Whatapancake

Even Del Taco dogpiled.
Del Burgers? Yes. Changing our name to Del Burger? No. pic.twitter.com/ZHH4Rx2ZtZ

Unwilling to be left out, even Netflix jumped into the fray.
brb changing my name to Netflib

For its part, IHOB (man it just feels weird saying that) is taking the ribbing in stride, and is spending most of its Twitter time reassuring customers that not much has changed besides the name – they are just adding more burgers.
We’ll always have pancakes. It’s just that now, we’ll have meat pancakes, too.
