The Trailer and Poster for Captain Marvel is Here – But Who’s the Cat?

Marvel’s newest hero is here – and she just destroyed a Blockbuster Video.

We’ve been teased for months with glimpses of Brie Larson on the set, as well as some official stills. But finally, we have an official trailer – and a poster!

The poster, thankfully, doesn’t follow the pattern of recent Marvel films that sticks every possible character on a one-sheet. Instead, we get just Larson in costume as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, with a cameo by a cat on the bottom left.

Comic fans are speculating that the cat is Chewie, Carol Danvers’ pet that turns out to be a Flerken, an alien species. Chewie and Rocket Raccoon have a bit of a run-in in the comics, so it should be fun to see that played out in a movie someday. Maybe.

According to the Marvel database at Wikia.com, “Flerken resembled Earth cats in appearance and behavior. They could lay up to 117 eggs and possessed a myriad of tentacles that could extend from their mouths. Their bodies also held pocket realities, bubbles of space and time that existed in other worlds. The species are said to be able to store entire universes within their mouths, with which they can access and store a great many of things within to draw upon at will.”

Flerken also have tendrils, which can extend from their mouths, featuring fanged maws which can devour almost anything. Kids will love seeing that!

Now that you know that, check out the full poster:
