Ewan McGregor Joins ‘Birds of Prey’ Film in Villain Role
Ewan McGregor is joining the DC Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Birds of Prey film.
The Golden Globe-winning actor is adding comic book villain to his already impressive resume, joining the cast of Birds of Prey as the villainous mob boss Black Mask.
For those of you unfamiliar with the character, Black Mask is the alter ego of Roman Sionis, a Gotham businessman who turned to organized crime after he ran his family’s successful business into the ground. He blamed Bruce Wayne and his company for his failure in business, however, and as Black Mask, he formed the False Face Society to commit crime. Black Mask became one of Batman’s more notorious enemies.
McGregor joins a cast that already includes his former girlfriend Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who is playing Huntress. Jurnee Smollett-Bell is playing Black Canary, Rosie Perez is playing Renee Montoya, and Margot Robbie leads the cast, reprising her role of Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad.
Cathy Yan is directing, with a screenplay written by Christina Hodson.
Birds of Prey will reportedly be rated R, and follows the team-up of Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Huntress, and Black Canary as they fight evil in Gotham, as only they can.
Birds of Prey opens on Feb. 7, 2020.
