‘Dragonball’ Actress Levels Sexual Misconduct Charges at Voice Actor Vic Mignogna
Vic Mignogna, one of the most well-known voice-over actors in anime, has been under fire in recent weeks over sexual misconduct allegations. This week, however, another voice actor has come forward with very specific, disturbing harassment allegations against the actor.
Monica Rial, an actress whose extensive career includes voice-over work for “Dragonball Z” and “Full Metal Panic,” detailed her accusations in a statement released via social media.
In the statement (included below), Rial details that the harassment consisted of unwanted kissing from Mignogna. She also states that she came forward after learning that her female friends had also been subjected to the same sort of behavior.
Rial also apologized for previous tweets in which she lashed out at her critics, saying she was responding in anger after receiving threats of violence against her and her family. She now says she will not comment on the situation further, in an effort to end the furor raging on social media.
Here is Rial’s statement.
According to a report by Nick Valdez of ComicBook.com, Funimation (who employs Mignogna for “Dragonball”) conducted an investigation last summer when allegations against the actor first surfaced. At that time, the results of the investigation were inconclusive, and Mignogna’s work on the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Broly remained in the film.
A second investigation by Funimation this winter seemed to come to a different conclusion, as the company announced they were cutting all ties with the actor.
For his part, Mignogna has maintained that his actions were not malicious, and insisted that “there are always two sides to every story.” He did issue an apology, however, for actions that he said may have made others uncomfortable.
The situation continues to split the anime fan community, and the social media debate has devolved into ugly rhetoric and threats of violence.
