Earthworm Jim Returns in a Comic Book! Here’s How to Back the IndieGoGo Campaign!

The 1990s’ favorite anti-hero is back, thanks to a new IndieGoGo campaign.

In 1994, the video game “Earthworm Jim” introduced us to a character unlike any we’ve seen before – a hillbilly earthworm who fought evil creatures and aliens in a quest to save a princess.

The game – and the character in particular – was such a hit, it spawned a cartoon series and a toy line that still has nostalgic fans some 20 years later.

Now, Earthworm Jim creator Doug TenNapel is ready to give us the full story of the heroic little guy. He has an IndieGoGo campaign (you can click here to see it) to create a 160-page hardcover graphic novel that tells the entire story of Earthworm Jim, including the parts that the video game never showed. Titled “Launch the Cow,” it tells Jim’s origin story, and includes all your favorite characters.

For hardcore fans of EWJ, TenNapel is also making a book that tells the entire backstory of the characters and how the video game came to be. The “Making Of The Earthworm Jim Book” is an added incentive that backers of the campaign can also purchase. It will also be hardbound, 9″ x 12″ and will start at 64 pages (with more pages to be added if the campaign meets certain goals). It will include interviews with the Earthworm Jim game team, and lots of photos and artwork will be included.

The “Launch the Cow” graphic novel is only $25, and based on the description, is worth every penny. “The book will start as a handsome hardbound edition, oversized at 9″ x 12″ and 160 pages long,” TenNapel explains on the IndieGoGo campaign page. “It documents the origins of the super suit and how it got to earth to make our favorite hero. You’ll see some familiar characters ripped straight out of the video game like: Peter Puppy, Princess What’s-Her-Name, Psycrow, the hideous Professor Monkey for a Head, Queen Slug-for-a-Butt and Evil the Cat!” You can get the graphic novel and the “making of” book for a $50 pledge.

Additional pledge levels, with premium items and even original art, are also available.

The campaign still has over a month to go, but it hit its $12,000 funding goal within hours of starting. As this story was published, the campaign had raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars, almost 2000% over its goal.
