‘Game of Thrones’ Showrunners and Actors Back Out of Comic Con Appearance

With people still upset over the ending of “Game of Thrones,” the architects of the mayhem will no longer be appearing at San Diego Comic Con to face the wrath of fans.

HBO announced that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will not attend the show’s planned panel on Friday, July 19. Episode director Miguel Sapochnick, who had also been announced as a panel participant, has also dropped out of the event. Production scheduling conflicts is given as the reason.

Also no longer attending are actors Ian Glen, who played Jorah Mormont, and Nathalie Emmanuel, who played Missandei.

The absence of the showrunners may be tied to the blowback the show’s final season received. In the case of the absence of the actors, that is likely due to an actual scheduling conflict. The actors are largely not shouldering the blame from fans.

Still attending the panel are Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Raleigh Ritchie (Greyworm), Isaac Wright (Bran Stark), John Bradley West (Samwell Tarly), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), and Conleth Hill (Varys).
