Actor Rutger Hauer Has Died at Age 75 (VIDEO)
Golden Globe -winning actor Rutger Hauer, who will forever be known as iconic Blade Runner villain Roy Batty, has died at the age of 75.
According to Variety, Hauer’s agent, Steve Kenis confirmed that the actor died at his home in the Netherlands on July 19 after a brief illness.
His passing was only announced today, just as his funeral was being held.
As the leader of a band of outlaw replicants, Hauer’s character of Batty battled Harrison Ford’s Deckard in Blade Runner. The movie was a flop in theaters, but became a cult favorite after numerous showings on cable. It was Hauer’s first major American film role, and kickstarted an American career in television and movies that lasted for decades.
Among his more notable projects were appearances in Sin City, Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, The Hitcher, Nighthawks, J.J. Abrams’ “ALIAS,” Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, “True Blood,” “Smallville,” Ladyhawke, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
