Funko Ending the Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty Subscription Box

In an email sent to subscribers this past week, Funko announced they are ending their Smuggler’s Bounty subscription box later this year.

The Star Wars mystery box, which is available through Amazon, has offered some fantastic Funko collectibles in the past, but appears to be suffering from the “Star Wars fatigue” plaguing all of the franchise’s merchandise sales.

Hasbro has reported steep drops in sales of Star Wars toys and action figures, which began after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm. Hasbro’s poor choices in merchandising and a negative response to the new Star Wars films didn’t help. Funko, on the other hand, seemed to be doing well with their Star Wars lines.

However, a quick search on the Amazon website found that many of the Smuggler’s Bounty boxes from this past year were still available for purchase, meaning there was far more unsold stock than they intended to have.

It appears Funko’s cancellation is limited only to Star Wars subscription boxes at this time. Their other subscription box, Marvel’s Collector Corps, appears to be continuing with Amazon.

“All good things must come to an end, including the Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty subscription box,” the email from Funko read. “Thank you for joining us on this epic adventure celebrating the most stellar fandom of them all.”

It does appear, however, that Funko Star Wars exclusives with Amazon will continue. “Keep an eye out for more exciting Star Wars products coming soon from Funko and Amazon,” the email promises.

One of those products is the upcoming exclusive Millennium Falcon, which can be ordered by clicking right here.
