‘G.I. Joe’ Spinoff ‘Snake Eyes’ Finds Its Scarlett as Filming Begins
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snake Eyes has begun production in Canada. The spinoff/reboot of the G.I. Joe movie franchise has also cast the pivotal role of Scarlett, just in time for cameras to roll.
Actress Samara Weaving will take up the crossbow as Scarlett for the film, multiple sources have reported. As a leading member of the G.I. Joe anti-terrorism team, Scarlett has a close, personal connection with Snake Eyes, played by Henry Golding.
Weaving recently had the lead role in this past summer’s surprise horror hit Ready or Not. Weaving has also appeared in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Netflix’s The Babysitter.
Also appearing in the film is Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Snake Eye’s former friend and now sworn enemy as a ninja for the terror group Cobra. Iko Uwais stars as the Hard Master, Snake Eye’s mentor, and Úrsula Corberó will appear as The Baroness, the head of intelligence for Cobra.
After filming in Vancouver, Canada completes, production will move to Japan.
Paramount will distribute the film, in partnership with Skydance and AllSpark Pictures.
Robert Schwentke is directing, with Evan Spiliotopoulos writing the script.
