One of the Original ‘Survivor’ Cast Members Has Died
Rudy Boesch, who appeared on the very first season of the hit CBS reality show “Survivor” has died. He was 91 years old.
Boesch appeared on the show at the age of 72 when the first season made its debut in May of 2000. He remains the oldest contestant to ever appear.
Rudy, who became a fan favorite on the show because of his gruff, grouchy attitude, died late Friday due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.
Boesch joined the Navy in 1945 and served there until his retirement in 1990. He was among the first-ever Navy SEALs, when the elite military group was formed in 1962. His volunteering for “secret hazardous duty” led to being one of the first 50 officers in SEAL Team Two.
He would later serve in Vietnam and earn the Bronze Star for heroism.
Although he didn’t win the first season of “Survivor,” which took place in Borneo, his alliance with eventual winner Richard Hatch became one of the show’s big storylines. His popularity led to his return to the show in 2004 for “Survivor: All Stars.”
Rudy is survived by three children. His wife passed in 2008.
