Did ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ Behind-The-Scenes Footage Tease Wicket the Ewok’s Return? (VIDEO)

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is feeding our nostalgia by bringing back classic characters, including Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) and Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).

Now, another original trilogy character appears ready to return. If a shot from a new behind-the-scenes featurette is to be believed, Wicket W. Warrick, an Ewok played by Warwick Davis, will appear in the new film.

The featurette (included below) shows a number of pictures and video from the sets of all nine films, in a bid to play up The Rise of Skywalker as the final chapter of the Skywalker saga.

One shot, however, is raising eyebrows. It shows Warwick Davis in an Ewok costume, which looks a lot like his Wicket character from Return of the Jedi.

Here is the shot:

Wicket

What makes this shot interesting is that Davis played Wicket at the age of 13, and played him again a few years later for the Ewok TV movies. However, the picture obviously shows Davis as he appears today, in his 40s.

That leads to obvious speculation that the shot is from the Episode IX set. It is certainly plausible, as the film will bring the characters to the wreckage of the second Death Star. That could easily take them back to the forest moon of Endor, the Ewok planet featured in Return of the Jedi.

For his part, Davis has not yet commented on the picture. So the speculation continues.

Here’s the featurette.

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20, 2019. Whether Wicket the Ewok will be a part of the film remains to be seen.
