‘Supergirl’ Alum Carl Lumbly Joins ‘Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ for Disney+

Actor Carl Lumbly is joining Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in an as-of-yet unannounced role.

The series is currently filming in the Atlanta area, and is set to premiere on the streaming service this August.

There is speculation online that Lumbly will possibly portray Isaiah Bradley, known as the “Black Captain America.” According to the Marvel Comics, Bradley was one of the original test subjects of the Super Soldier program during World War II.

Lumbly is known to DC Comics fans for his role as M’yrnn J’onzz, the father of J’onn J’onzz the Martian Manhunter, on the CW’s “Supergirl.” His casting was a callback to his voice work on the “Justice League” cartoon, where he voiced Martian Manhunter.

Genre fans will also remember Lumbly as the star of Sam Raimi’s sci-fi series “M.A.N.T.I.S.,” which aired briefly on Fox in the mid 1990s.

The 68-year-old actor is also known to many for his role as CIA Agent Marcus Dixon on J.J. Abrams’ classic spy series “Alias.” He also appeared in the TV shows “This Is Us,” “God Friended Me,” “NCIS: Los Angeles,” and “Cagney & Lacey.”

Carl Lumbly also appeared in the recent movie Doctor Sleep as Dick Hallorann, the role originally played by Scatman Crothers in The Shining. His other film credits include Men of Honor and Buckaroo Bonzai.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/The Falcon and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier. Emily VanCamp appears as Sharon Carter and Daniel Brühl returns as Zemo. New to the cast is Wyatt Russell, who plays John Walker the USAgent. In the Marvel Comics, Walker was also a Super-Soldier and took on the mantle of Captain America.
