A ‘Star Wars’ Actor Has Died From Coronavirus
An actor and dialect coach who appeared in the Star Wars sequel trilogy has died from complications from a coronavirus infection.
Andrew Jack, who appeared as General Ematt in The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens, died Tuesday at a London-area hospital from complications of the COVID-19 coronavirus. He was 76.
Andrew’s rep, Jill McCullough, said Jack’s wife Gabrielle Rogers could not be with him when he passed, because she is in quarantine in Australia. Worse, because of pandemic restrictions, she may not be able to give him a proper burial or attend his funeral.
Jack was widely regarded as one of the top dialect coaches in the movie industry. He worked with actor John Boyega to lose his British accent for the Star Wars films.
He was also a dialect coach on films including Avengers: Endgame, Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Alien v. Predator, Lord of the Rings, Die Another Day, Eastern Promises, Captain America, and Men in Black: International. He even helped Christian Bale lose his accent to play Batman in the Christopher Nolan trilogy of films.
Up until a few weeks ago, Andrew was working on the new Batman movie with Robert Pattinson. Production on the film shut down in early March due to coronavirus concerns.
Star Wars director J.J. Abrams posted a note on his Instagram remembering Jack.
Our condolences to his family and friends.
