Conan O’Brien Under Fire for Easter Tweet Mocking Jesus’ Crucifixion
Comedian and late night talk show host Conan O’Brien is being heavily criticized after he tweeted a joke on Easter Sunday about the crucifixion of Jesus.
While Christians around the world were celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, O’Brien took the opportunity to take a swipe at Christians and President Trump.
Jokes about religion always walk a fine line, but O’Brien’s joke wasn’t just unfunny; it was petty and disrespectful given the timing.
The joke took a humorless swipe at President Trump’s championing of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19, the coronavirus. It also ridiculed the crucifixion of Christ, on Easter Sunday, no less.
“Trump says Jesus could have avoided crucifixion by taking hydroxychloroquine,” he said.
Obviously, his joke writers had the weekend off.
Here is a sampling of the not-so-supportive responses.
Joey Salads pointed out an important theological fact, something I never thought I’d say.
He didn’t try to avoid it….

The left using Christians as a punching bags. You will never hear them make fun of other religions like Islam.

NYtimes headline said Christians, not China that lied, are to blame for Covid. The venom & hatred of Christians by the left is truly unbelievable. Why do they hate us?
Joan Rivers was right, you getting fired from The Tonight Show saved everyone from having to learn you’re not funny

Conan has a history of anti-Christian jokes, including a bit in 2004 when he introduced a new character called the “Gay Bible.” It was a person inside a Bible walking with two shirtless men.
O’Brien has not responded to the controversy.
