Lea Michele Accused of Racism by Black Cast Members of ‘Glee’
Actress Lea Michele, best known for her lead role in the television show “Glee,” is being accused for racist behavior by black cast members from the show.
The controversy started late Monday night after Michele posted a tweet supporting the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
She got a response from Samantha Marie Ware, who played Jane Hayward in 11 episodes of season 6. Ware, who is black, accused Michele of some disturbing behavior.
“LMAO Remember when you made my first television gig a living hell?!?!” she tweeted. “Cause I’ll never forget. I believe you told everyone that if you had the opportunity you would ‘SHIT IN MY WIG!’ Amongst other traumatic microaggressions that made me question a career in Hollywood….”
Here’s the tweet.
Several other black cast members “co-signed” her tweet, which is Twitter’s way of endorsing a tweet by responding not with words, but with a GIF or meme. First was Alex Newell, who played Wade ‘Unique’ Adams.
Amber Riley, who played Mercedes Jones in 112 episodes and six seasons of the show, seemingly agreed with Ware, posting a cryptic GIF of herself that seemed to indicate she knew the actress was speaking the truth.
Actor Dabier, who appeared in one episode, also posted about Michele’s behavior.
The accusations have already caused a backlash that cost Lea Michele an endorsement.
Hello Fresh dropped Michele as a spokesperson on Tuesday afternoon.
