Chadwick Boseman Dead at 43 From Cancer
Actor Chadwick Boseman, who gained worldwide fame playing Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has died at the age of 43.
According to a tweet on his official Twitter account, he has been battling colon cancer for the past four years. He died at his home on Friday with his wife and family at his side.
Boseman kept his cancer battle a secret from the public, even as he filmed his final appearances as King T’Challa/Black Panther in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
In recent days, fans noticed his dramatic weight loss, but none suspected his cancer had progressed to Stage 4.
Boseman also appeared as real-life heroes James Brown in Get On Up, Jackie Robinson in 42 and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall.
His other acting credits include Draft Day, “Fringe,” “Castle,” and 21 Bridges.
Hollywood is weighing in on Boseman’s passing. Denzel Washington, who once sponsored a then-unknown Boseman to attend a summer theater program at Oxford, said in a statement “He was a gentle soul and a brilliant artist, who will stay with us for eternity through his iconic performances over his short yet illustrious career. God bless Chadwick Boseman.”
Ryan Reynolds also commented via Twitter.
Viola Davis paid tribute as well.
