Richard Donner Returning to Direct the Final ‘Lethal Weapon’ – at 91 Years Old
Iconic director Richard Donner has confirmed that he is getting behind the camera to film a new Lethal Weapon, and he also confirms it will be the last ride for Riggs and Murtaugh.
Donner, who also directed the four previous Lethal Weapon movies, will be 91 when shooting begins next year.
In an interview with the UK Telegraph, Donner discussed his career, and finally spoke about his involvement in the film. He also confirmed that this will be the final film in the highly-successful series.
“This is the final one. It’s both my privilege and duty to put it to bed,” Donner said. “It’s exciting, actually… Hahaha! It’s the last one, I’ll promise you that.”
In January of 2020, producer Dan Lin told The Hollywood Reporter that Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, had agreed to reunite for a fifth film. He also announced that the rest of the original cast was returning (we assume that means Joe Pesci and Rene Russo), as well as Donner in the director’s chair.
Donner has also directed The Omen, Superman: The Movie, and The Goonies. He directed the first Lethal Weapon in 1987 and has directed a film since 16 Blocks in 2006.
