Check Out This Vintage 1980 Ad From Target!

The 1980s were a golden age for action figures, and during the Easter season of 1980, Target made it easy for kids to get the figures they wanted.

In the vintage ad featured below, which ran in the St. Louis Post Dispatch during the Easter season of 1980, Target put their action figures on sale for a mere $1.99! Sure, it wasn’t much of a drop from the regular $2.29 price, but in 1980, 30 cents made a big difference, especially to kids.

The ad offers figures “from favorite shows such as Star Trek, Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, Star Wars, Superman, and the new Black Hole.” The superhero figures were from the now-classic Mego Comic Action Heroes line, which ran from 1976 to 1982 and featured both Marvel and DC characters.

The “new” Black Hole action figures mentioned in the ad were also from Mego, and had been released only a few months earlier, as the film opened during the 1979 Christmas season.

And don’t even get us started on seeing vintage Kenner Star Wars figures on sale for $1.99.

Here’s the ad.

This makes us both nostalgic and jealous.
