‘Ghostbusters’ Director Ivan Reitman Has Passed Away
Ivan Reitman, the director of the classic film Ghostbusters, has passed away at the age of 75.
According to the Associated Press, Reitman died peacefully in his sleep Saturday night at his home in Montecito, California.
His children Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman and Caroline Reitman confirmed his passing to AP, who also provided a statement. “Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life. We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”
Reitman directed some classic films over a career that spanned more than five decades, including Stripes, Meatballs, Dave, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Six Days Seven Nights, Draft Day, and both of the 1980s Ghostbusters films. Among the films he has produced are National Lampoon’s Animal House, Space Jam, Junior, Hitchcock, Up in the Air, Old School, and most recently, Ghostbusters Afterlife, which his son Jason directed.
He was also set to direct Triplets, a sequel to Twins that would have reunited Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, with Tracy Morgan starring as the third sibling.
Our condolences, thoughts, and prayers to his family, friends, and fans.
