‘Harry Potter,’ ‘James Bond’ Actor Robbie Coltrane Has Died
Robbie Coltrane, best known as the actor who played Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, has passed away.
According to a report by Deadline, the 72-year-old Scottish actor died at a hospital in Larbert, Scotland, after a long illness. He had been in declining health for the last two years.
Coltrane became a fan-favorite playing Hagrid the giant wizard in the Harry Potter films, and his scenes with Daniel Radcliffe had a memorable chemistry. He was reportedly the only choice J.K. Rowling named when asked who should play the character, when the film adaptation of her books was first proposed.
He starred in two of Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond films, GoldenEye and The World is not Enough, as Russian underworld figure Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky. He also starred in the critically-acclaimed BBC series Cracker, which won him three consecutive Best Actor BAFTA Awards. He also starred in Hulu’s National Treasure, Ocean’s 12, and Disney’s Brave.
