REPORTS: ‘Hawkeye’ TV Series Villain Revealed, Mockingbird Actress Will Be Recast

With movie and TV productions ramping up again, we’re getting more news about the long-awaited “Hawkeye” series for Disney+, with Jeremy Renner reprising his role as the arrow-shooting Avenger.

We must note here: while we usually refrain from posting rumors, the websites reporting these developments have a decent reputation for reliability. We don’t run rumors from clickbait sites, and refuse to give them a platform.

According to the website TheDirect, the villain for the “Hawkeye” series will be Giuletta Nefaria, aka Madame Masque. A skilled fighter, Madame Masque wears a golden bulletproof mask after being disfigured.

Madame Masque

The character has already appeared in an MCU TV series, when actress Wynn Everett played Whitney Frost, an alias of Nefaria in older Marvel Comics, in the second season of “Agent Carter.” The new incarnation of the character for the “Hawkeye” series, however, will be based on a more recent comic mythology, where Madame Masque is an Iron Man foe who has personal vendettas against Hawkeye and his protégé, Kate Bishop.

Bishop will be played by actress Hailee Steinfeld in the series.

Madame Masque may not be the only villain to appear in the series, but her inclusion could hint at big things for Kate Bishop, as the pair share a personal connection in the comics.

There is also news regarding the character of Mockingbird, aka Bobbi Morse, who is also appearing in the series.

Mockingbird has previously appeared in the series “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” played by Adrianne Palicki. However, FandomWire is reporting exclusively that Palicki will not return to the role, and a new actress will be brought in. Although “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has several direct ties to the films, including the appearance of Jaime Alexander’s Sif and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, Marvel Studios has not been keen on expanding on the actors and characters who originated in the series.

“Hawkeye” is scheduled to air on the Disney+ streaming service in 2022.
