‘Laverne & Shirley’ Star Dead at 73

Actor David Lander, best known as Squiggy on the classic sit-com Laverne & Shirley, has died at the age of 73.

According to Deadline, Lander died on Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from multiple sclerosis complications.

Lander, who battled the disease for 37 years, also appeared in Steven Spielberg’s 1941, Used Cars with Kurt Russell, and in A League of Their Own, directed by Laverne herself, Penny Marshall.

Lander’s Squiggy created a memorable TV duo with Lenny, played by actor Michael McKean. The pair appeared in the series’ eight seasons.

McKean marked Lander’s passing with a photo of the pair from the show.

On Sunday, McKean addressed the many who had offered their condolences.

Lander and McKean actually met as students at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh and created the characters there. The pair also voiced the characters Henry and Louie the penguins on the animated series “Oswald.”

This YouTube video features many of Lenny and Squiggy’s classic entrances, a running gag on the show.
