Lucasfilm Introduces First Transgender Characters in ‘Star Wars’

Lucasfilm and Disney used the recent Trans Day of Visibility to do what they do best: virtue signal to sell merchandise.

In the latest embrace of left-wing social causes, Lucasfilm celebrated a pair of Jedi twins in a comic book as the saga’s first recognized transgender characters.

The pair were issued on a variant cover for “Star Wars: The High Republic” from Marvel Comics. They weren’t featured on the main cover, because Lucasfilm’s apparent courage to support trans characters goes only so far.

Science fiction has long featured characters who were either genderless or did not adhere to the social or scientific definitions of gender. However, Lucasfilm’s publicity stunt seems less about exploring new themes or characters, and more about pandering to activists in hopes of selling some extra comic book copies.

“In honor of #TransDayOfVisibility we’re proud to unveil an exclusive cover highlighting Terec and Ceret, trans non-binary Jedi, currently featured in Marvel’s The High Republic comic,” a statement on Faceook read. “We support trans lives and we are passionate and committed to broadening our representation in a galaxy far far away.”
