Rob Zombie’s ‘The Munsters’ Drops a Full Trailer
Rob Zombie’s reimagining of The Munsters is coming this September, and Universal has just released a full trailer, which echoes the same vibes as the original 1960s TV show.
The Munsters trailer (featured below) focuses heavily on the romance between the newly-created Herman Munster (Jeff Daniel Phillip) and the Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie), who is looking for her dream man. The couple moves from Transylvania to a new home on Mockingbird Lane in America, where they don’t quite fit in.
The film also stars Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa, Jorge Garcia as Floop, Richard Brake as Dr. Wolfgang, Catherine Schell as Zoya Krupp, and Sylvester McCoy as Igor. Also appearing in cameo roles are Elvira herself, Cassandra Peterson, as well as Dee Wallace (Cujo, The Howling, E.T.) and the two surviving original Munsters cast members: Butch Patrick and Pat Priest.
A short teaser trailer was released in June, but this full trailer offers a much better look at the direction Rob Zombie is taking with the film.
A PG rating for Rob Zombie
Zombie, a self-professed fan of the original series, made the film to be loyal to the original concept and tone, retaining the goofy humor and earning a PG rating, a first for a Zombie movie. One big change, of course, is the move from the original black-and-white to color. In doing so, Zombie made sure played in the film’s favor. “What I did do is I made the colors sort of hyper-real,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I noticed when the actors were in their makeup and they were just walking around, getting lunch or whatever, they looked like cartoon characters come to life. They were just so insanely colorful. I was like, I have to light the movie in the same fashion. It really seemed at all times like a live-action cartoon, which was really exciting.”
