‘Daredevil’ Canceled by Netflix – Deborah Ann Woll Reacts

Marvel’s flagship series on Netflix, “Daredevil,” has been canceled after three seasons.

The announcement comes a little more than a month after season three premiered on the streaming service, to positive reviews by both critics and fans. In recent weeks, Netflix had cancelled both “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” cutting its Marvel series offerings nearly in half.

With the cancellation of “Daredevil,” only “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher” remain as Marvel’s live-action series on the service. The premiere dates for their new seasons have not yet been announced.

“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix,” the streaming service told Deadline. “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years.”

Netflix also said they expect Daredevil to live on in other Marvel projects. That seems to allude to a possible revival of the series at Disney’s new streaming service, called Disney+, which launches next year. That service has already announced “Loki” and “Scarlet Witch” series are in pre-production.

The official “Daredevil” Twitter account seemed to respond to the news Thursday evening with a single tweet.

Star Deborah Ann Woll tweeted about the announcement Thursday evening. “I’m so sad that we won’t be continuing this story,” she said. “Mostly I’ll miss seeing the friends I’ve made everyday. Thank you to every person who contributed to this series over the years.”

Despite strong reviews, viewership for season three was down, and with Marvel pushing for 13-episode seasons and Netflix only wanting ten, keeping the series became cost-prohibitive.
