BREAKING: ‘Godfather’ Star Dead at 85 (VIDEO)
Carmine Caridi, star of over 100 TV shows and films, has passed away at 85.
TMZ first reported the actor’s passing today, which was confirmed by his friend, actor and director Chazz Palminteri.
Caridi played the role of Carmine Rosato, a Corleone family enforcer, in The Godfather Part II. He also appeared in The Godfather Part III as a different character, Albert Volpe.
More recently, he had a notable role as Detective Vince Gotelli on “NYPD Blue.”
The actor had reportedly fallen at his home on April 25 and been hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles with back injuries. In recent days, however, Caridi developed pneumonia.
According to TMZ, Caridi’s condition worsened over the weekend and he slipped into a coma. He passed Wednesday morning.
Carmine appeared in a number of TV shows, including “Starsky and Hutch,” “Taxi,” “Fame” and “Simon & Simon.”
Lee Curreri, who played Caridi’s TV son on the TV show “Fame,” acknowledged his passing on Twitter. “You will be sorely missed,” he tweeted.
