Classic ‘Charlie Brown’ Movies are Coming Back to Theaters (VIDEO)
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its release, the animated Peanuts classic A Boy Named Charlie Brown is returning to theaters. It is one of two Peanuts features that will hit the big screen again for special limited showings beginning this month.
CineLife Entertainment is partnering with CBS to release the digitally remastered Peanuts films A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Snoopy Come Home. You can find theaters near you showing the films (and purchase tickets) by clicking right here and visiting the CineLife website.
First released in theaters in 1969, A Boy Named Charlie Brown was the first animated feature film based on Charles M. Schulz’s ever-popular Peanuts® comic strip. When Charlie Brown enters the school spelling bee, the doubtful Lucy predicts his abject humiliation. But with the help of his best friend Linus and loyal dog Snoopy, Charlie Brown sets out to surprise his detractors in order to attend the national spelling bee in New York City.
Nominated for an Oscar® in 1971 for “Best Original Music/Song Score” by Vince Guaraldi, A Boy Named Charlie Brown projects the innocence of Schulz’s charming characters with glee and takes them on a most spectacular adventure.
The film will play in select theaters nationwide on August 18, 21 & 24.
CineLife is also releasing a digitally remastered Snoopy, Come Home later this fall. First released in 1972, the follow-up to A Boy Named Charlie Brown finds Snoopy torn between two owners. When Snoopy receives a letter from his original owner Lila, who is in the hospital, his heartstrings are pulled. He and his bird pal Woodstock venture out on a cross-country trip to visit the ailing Lila. When she gets better and asks Snoopy to live with her, the poor beagle faces a dilemma of loyalty, and must choose between Charlie and Lila.
Written by Charles Schulz, with a score by Oscar winners Richard and Robert Sherman (Mary Poppins), the film features the screen debut of Woodstock. It will play in select theaters on September 29, as well as October 3 and 5.
