Former WWE Star Dead After Battle with Brain Cancer (VIDEO)

A promising WWE superstar and former WWE Tough Enough winner has died after a battle with brain cancer.

Matt Cappotelli entered the professional wrestling world by winning WWE Tough Enough, a competition reality show that chooses future wrestlers. He won the third season of the show and made several appearances on WWE Raw, before moving on to wrestle with Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW).

He went on to win the OVW Championship, but a diagnosis of brain cancer in 2006 ended his career. A 2007 operation to remove the tumor was successful, but the cancer returned just over a year ago.

In May, he and his wife announced that they were ending medical treatment, as the cancer had advanced too far.

His wife made the announcement on social media. “Hey Team Capp…I’ve been struggling with what to say and how to say this, and I’ll probably end up rambling, but here goes. Today my love-my strong, sweet, beautiful love-took his last breath at 3:30 a.m. and went Home to be with Jesus…exactly one year after his brain surgery.

“You think you can be prepared for this when you know it’s coming, but you just can’t. The only person who’s comfort I want right now is the one who can’t give it to me. I miss him so much. I know where he is now is so much better, but it doesn’t change how much I miss him.”

The WWE also paid tribute to Cappotelli.
