George Lucas, Harrison Ford Attend the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Opening Ceremony at Disneyland (VIDEO)

Wednesday evening, Disneyland unveiled their largest expansion in park history, all dedicated to Star Wars. And some surprise guests showed up. Video of the event is included below.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is a 14-acre attraction set in the fictional world of Batuu, a trading post where both the Resistance and the First Order can be found. It not only offers some fantastic Star Wars-themed rides, the “trading post” part makes it easy to shop for all kinds of exclusive Star Wars goodies.

A “Smuggler’s Run” ride, featuring a life-size Millennium Falcon, is the centerpiece of Galaxy’s Edge, and it served as a backdrop for the attraction’s opening ceremonies on Wednesday night. The attraction officially opened to the public on Friday.

Disney CEO Bob Iger was on hand for the opening ceremony, but he surprised the entire crowd by introducing several special guests: George Lucas, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Billy Dee Williams, who appeared to the roaring approval of the crowd attending.

Here’s video from the opening ceremony, which included a touching shout-out from Ford to the late Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca in the original films.

Galaxy’s Edge is now open at Disneyland in Anaheim. Disney World in Florida will open their own version of the attraction in August.
