Watch a Behind-The-Scenes Featurette from Peter Jackson’s ‘Mortal Engines’ (VIDEO)

Peter Jackson’s new steampunk fantasy, Mortal Engines, hits theaters December 14, and we have a new look behind the scenes of the upcoming epic film.

Jackson serves as an executive producer, and co-wrote the script from the series of novels by Philip Reeve. He brings with him much of the creative team that produced The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, and at least one actor.

The film stars Hugo Weaving, Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, Jihae, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide and Stephen Lang. Christian Rivers directs. Ken Kamins, Philippa Boyens serve as executive producers, and Jackson joins Zane Weiner, Amanda Walker, Deborah Forte and Fran Walsh as producers.

The synopsis of the film, as released by Universal, is as follows.

Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.

This featurette brings us a closer look at the film, and includes interviews with Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Hugo Weaving.
