Fans Underwhelmed by New ‘Terminator’ Pic Highlighting Film’s Leading Ladies
There’s a new Terminator film coming next year, but the response to the first promotional still has been less than enthusiastic.
That’s because the picture for the film is missing its biggest star: Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is hoping to right the franchise with James Cameron back on board as producer. Deadpool‘s Tim Miller directs.
Instead, the picture features two people whose characters are unknown, and a third who is unrecognizable from her appearance in her last Terminator movie.
Linda Hamilton is back as Sarah Connor, which is perhaps the best thing about this new movie. The Terminator series, even with Arnold, doesn’t really work without her presence. Unless you knew it was her, however, you likely wouldn’t recognize her in the picture, sporting large sunglasses and a short blonde hairstyle. In truth, she should have been the only person featured in the picture, without sunglasses, giving us a look that screams “We Have No Fate But What We Make.”
The other two actresses are new to the franchise. Natalia Reyes, a Columbian actress and relative newcomer, plays Dani Ramos, who has been described as the protagonist of the film. The other actress is far more recognizable: Mackenzie Davis (who plays “Grace”) has starred in The Martian and Blade Runner 2049, but her exact role is unknown. From the photo, it appears she has some circuitry or seams in her skin, indicating she is a cyborg of some sort, but it is unclear if she is a Terminator.
In fact, there’s not much in the picture to indicate it’s from a Terminator movie at all. It’s grungy and post-apocalyptic, but it isn’t instantly recognizable. That’s triggered a lukewarm response from fans, who are wondering what exactly they are supposed to be excited about, outside of Hamilton’s return.
Here’s the picture, as it was posted to the film’s official Facebook page.
The response to the image was mixed. Some dismissed the criticism as sexist, but in truth, an unrecognizable Sarah Connor with two unknown male actors wouldn’t have fared much better. Most just aren’t thrilled with the idea of yet another Terminator reboot, sight unseen. Hamilton seems to be the only thing that people are excited about.
Loving the look of Sarah Connor.
But the other cast members, I dunno. I'm not feeling it at all. #Terminator pic.twitter.com/WxuxpkX5K5— Laurence Drew (@MacReadys_Beard) August 1, 2018

Argh … I don’t know how to feel about the #Terminator reboot.
However, Sarah Connor looks badass. pic.twitter.com/12EFYNLYpF— Rowanna⁷💜🐋 (@rowanna_09) August 1, 2018
Not sure if Mackenzie Davis' role has been confirmed as a #Terminator (with all those telling scars), but can we appreciate how she's nailing the cold T-1000 death stare in the new @Terminator promo image? pic.twitter.com/sBNLx3WxjH

I did some digging and it turns out that there is no law requiring the making of more #Terminator sequels. So you can stop now.

I hope whoever signed off on that new #Terminator pic being released has just been told by their family not to come home for Christmas
