Penny Marshall Dead at 75

Penny Marshall, who earned fame as the star of the ABC sitcom “Laverne and Shirley” and went on to have a successful directing career, has died at the age of 75.

TMZ is reporting that Marshall died Monday night at her Hollywood Hills home from complications from diabetes.

“Laverne and Shirley” premiered in 1976 on ABC as a spinoff of characters Marshall and Cindy Williams played on the classic show “Happy Days.” It ran for eight seasons, where she showcased her incredible comedic talents.

In the 1980s she moved to directing, and helmed such hits as Big with Tom Hanks and the baseball classic A League of Their Own. She also directed Awakenings with Robin Williams and Robert De Niro.

Marshall had previously fought brain and lung cancer in 2009.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Marshall’s family and friends.
