Grand Moff Tarkin Coming to Hasbro’s Vintage Figure Line

It only took 41 years, but Star Wars collectors are finally getting a vintage-style Grand Moff Tarkin action figure!

Back in the day, kids buying Star Wars action figures had a gaping hole in their Imperial forces, as Tarkin was never offered by Kenner during the initial wave of toys. Although Kenner reportedly had plans to include Tarkin in the Power of the Force collection of the mid-1980s, the line was cancelled before it became a reality.

Now, likely spurred by the success of Super 7’s Reaction figures, Hasbro is revisiting the Kenner line. The “Retro Collection,” as it is being called, will feature vintage-style figures similar to those Kenner made from 1978 to 1985. Collectors did eventually get a Tarkin figure in the 1990s, when Hasbro released one as part of the Power of the Force 2 line. While it featured a nice likeness of actor Peter Cushing, its modern detailing did not fit in with vintage figures. Additional versions of Tarkin have been released in subsequent modern lines.

At this past weekend’s Toy Fair, Hasbro revealed that Tarkin would also be included in the “Retro” collection. The figure will be included in the Target exclusive reissue of the classic “Escape from the Death Star” board game, packed on a vintage-style cardback.

Here’s a look at the packaged figure and the board game, with pictures released by Hasbro and a Toy Fair photo posted to Twitter by Jedi News UK.
