Hasbro is Recreating Vintage-Styled Star Wars Figures

At Toy Fair this weekend, Hasbro granted the wishes of a lot of old-school vintage Star Wars collectors, when they announced the return of vintage-style action figures.

Dubbed the “Retro Collection,” Hasbro is releasing characters originally included in the line from 1978 to 1985, as well as characters that never saw a vintage figure. All will be released on vintage style cards identical to the originals, with a new “Retro” label attached.

The first six figures are Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Stormtrooper, and Darth Vader. Although the figures look identical to the originals, they are not reissues. Rather, they are new sculpts that look very close to the original versions.

Hasbro announced another figure in the Retro Collection, one that was never released back in the day: Grand Moff Tarkin! He will be released as a pack-in with the reissued Kenner “Escape from the Death Star” board game.

Here’s the first images of the Star Wars Retro figures.

Some vintage collectors are not happy with the line. They believe the accessories will be confused with their actual vintage counterparts, which command a premium price among collectors.

We’ll update the information on the Star Wars retro figures as details are released.
