Mego Meet 2019: Marty Abrams Announces New Figures (VIDEO)

This past weekend, Mego Meet 2019 was held in Columbus, Ohio, with hundreds of collectors and Mego founder Marty Abrams in attendance.

During a Q&A session with attendees, Abrams and Joel Rosenzweig confirmed some upcoming figures and addressed a number of rumors and reports. Video taken from the session was included below.

Following is a summary of what was confirmed by Abrams and company at the event. Much of this report comes from video and first-hand reports from the Mego Ambassadors Facebook group, made up of fans who support and promote the Mego brand (click here to check them out).

Among the new products officially announced at the event:

  • Lord of the Rings figures are coming! These will be based on the films, and a select group of attendees saw prototypes for Aragorn and Legolas, which were received very well, but no photography was allowed. No release date yet.
  • The classic KISS figure line will be completed with Catman and Spaceman Ace.
  • Prototype heads for Apollo Creed and Ivan Drago were shown, as a part of the Rocky line we had previously reported on (click here to read our report).
  • Three new figure bodies, two male and one female, are coming this year. The new bodies will have no rubber bands.
  • New 8 inch DC Comics figures are coming. No specific characters were announced. Until now, Mego only had the license to produce DC characters in 14 inch versions. This new line will feature the same scale as the original 1970s figure line.
  • “Twilight Zone” figures are coming.
  • 14 inch versions of their monster figures are coming.
  • The Mummy is coming very soon. The Headless Horseman is also reportedly coming soon.

Among other news addressed by Abrams:

  • The long-rumored Mad Max figures are still under discussion, but the license has not been secured.
  • While he would love to do figures based on The Godfather, there hasn’t been any official discussion to get the license.
  • Discussions are underway for classic characters from the WWE.
  • No discussions yet with Fox/Disney on The Orville figures.
  • Planet of the Apes figures could be coming very soon.
  • With Mego holding the Star Trek license, Discovery figures are possible, but the focus now is on classic Trek and Next Generation characters. No word on when we would see TNG figures on store shelves.
  • All sorts of monster figures are under consideration.
