‘Avengers: Endgame’ Returning to Theaters With New Footage, Eyeing ‘Avatar’ Record

Marvel Studios is going all-out to snap Avatar’s box office record into oblivion.

Currently, Avengers: Endgame’s total box office haul rest less than $50 short of the box office champ, Avatar. It currently sits at a $2,742,491,359 global box office gross. Avatar’s box office sits at $2,787,965,087, and even though Avengers is still playing on 1,400 screens, it’s daily gross of less than $500,000 means it won’t have enough momentum to topple Avatar as the box office champ.

So, Marvel Studios is re-releasing the film, promising new footage, in an attempt to kickstart ticket sales and take the box office crown.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has confirmed that Endgame is indeed returning to theaters. Instead of releasing an extended cut, however, viewers will have to wait through the credits to see new footage.

“We are doing that,” Feige said in an interview to promote Spider-Man: Far From Home. “I don’t know if it’s been announced. And I don’t know how much…Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.”

“Not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theaters with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie,” he told Screenrant. “If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend.”

The “next weekend” reference likely means the film will re-release on May 28, so it doesn’t interfere with Toy Story 4. With X-Men and Men In Black both flopping at the box office, Marvel is betting theater-goers will want another chance to see a good comic book movie.
