‘Men in Black’ Actor Rip Torn Dead at 88 (VIDEO)
Texas-born actor Rip Torn, best known for his roles in HBO’s “The Larry Sanders Show” and the Men in Black films, died Tuesday at his Lakeville, Connecticut home. He was 88 years old.
In a career that lasted over half a century, Torn appeared in over 80 films, as well as dozens of television shows and stage productions.
Born Elmore Rual Torn Jr. in 1931 in Temple, Texas, Torn attended both Texas A&M and the University of Texas, and eventually moved to Los Angeles in the 1950s to break into Hollywood.
The Emmy and Tony-nominated actor appeared in films including King of Kings, The Beastmaster, Defending Your Life, DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story, and the first two Men in Black films.
His role as Artie the producer in HBO’s comedy hit “The Larry Sanders Show” earned him six Emmy nominations, winning one in 1996.
Torn is survived by his wife, five children, his sister, and four grandchildren.
