The ‘Star Wars’ Films Get A Blu-ray Re-Release, with Digital HD (See the Covers)
Lucasfilm is re-releasing all ten Star Wars films on Blu-ray, which will include a digital version of some of the films for the first time.
The announcement has not been made officially yet, but the artwork has already leaked, thanks to a report by Jordan Maison of Cinelinx.
Reports say the Blu-rays will be released on September 24, and appear to be repacks of the original Blu-ray discs. The only things new are the covers and the inclusion of a code for a digital copy with each film.
For those who wanted digital versions of the original six films to watch on services like Movies Anywhere and VUDU, they had to be purchased from those services, and they weren’t cheap. The Disney-era Star Wars films all included a digital code with their home video release.
It is possible that the official announcement of the Blu-rays will come at D23, the official Disney Fan Expo, to be held this month.
Lucasfilm has a habit of pushing re-releases ahead of a major announcement. This re-release comes just as rumors are floating that a 4K release of the original trilogy is coming next year. This could be one last hurrah for Blu-rays before Lucasfilm dives head-first into the Ultra High Definition format.
Here are the Original Trilogy covers.
Here are the Prequel Trilogy covers.
The Sequel Trilogy covers are seen here.
And finally, the Anthology films are included here.
