Peter Fonda Dead at 79
Actor Peter Fonda, who starred in the iconic 1960s film Easy Rider, died today from respiratory failure due to an ongoing battle with lung cancer. He was 79.
Fonda starred in close to 100 films over a a nearly 60-year career. His acting highlights include Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, Escape From L.A., Ulee’s Gold, Ghost Rider, and the remake of 3:10 to Yuma. His final film, The Last Full Measure, opens in October.
He was nominated twice for Academy Awards, for Best Screenplay for Easy Rider in 1969 and Best Actor for Ulee’s Gold in 1998.
The son of actor Henry Fonda and brother of actress Jane Fonda set a standard for rebels with his role in Easy Rider, often playing the role in many other films. He took it literally, and even recently, as he was highly criticized for outrageous statements regarding President Trump’s son.
Fonda’s family released a statement confirming his passing.
Last year, Fonda said that Trump’s young son Barron should be ripped from his mother’s arms and placed in a cage with pedophiles, in retaliation for the President’s handling of the border crisis.
Many wondered if his celebrity status kept him from being punished by Twitter over the statement.
This is a developing story.
