Andy Muschietti Confirms He’s Directing ‘The Flash’ Movie

In a new interview, IT director Andy Muschietti has confirmed that his next project with be The Flash stand-alone film.

In an interview with Fandango to discuss IT Chapter 2, Muschietti told Nikki Novak that he is joining the DC Cinematic universe, by helming the Flash film.

The movie has been in development since Ezra Miller played the character in 2017’s Justice League. Miller, who also played the Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, has been actively promoting the potential film with fans. For a while, prospects for the film appeared grim, after Justice League castmates Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill left the franchise.

The success of Wonder Woman and Aquaman, as well as positive fan reaction to Miller’s portrayal of The Flash, kept the project alive.

When asked by Novak if he would be directing The Flash film as his next project, Muschietti simply replied “Yup.”

When asked if he would incorporate any horror elements like the IT films, Muschietti clarified his vision for the DC Universe film. “An element if horror? I don’t think so,” he said. “What captivated me about the Flash is the human drama in it. The human feelings and emotions that play in the drama. It’s going to be fun, too. I can’t promise that there will be any horror, really, but it’s a beautiful human story.”

At Comic Con this summer, Muschietti said he planned on taking some time off after the release of IT Chapter 2, meaning work on The Flash could likely start sometime next year. Neither a start of production nor a release date has not been announced.

No other cast or crew members have been announced.

IT Chapter 2 hits theaters September 6.
