Paul Dano to Play The Riddler in ‘The Batman’

Emmy-nominated actor Paul Dano is donning the Riddler’s bowler hat for Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

The announcement comes a day after word hit that Jonah Hill was no longer in negotiations to play a villain in the film. Although not confirmed, reports said he was set to play the Penguin.

Dano, who has also earned a Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe nomination, first hit stardom in the 2006 film Little Miss Sunshine.

He joins Robert Pattinson (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Zoe Kravitz (Selina Kyle/Catwoman) and Jeffrey Wright (Commissioner Gordon) in the film. It is set to release in 2021.

Director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, War for the Planet of the Apes) has said more villains will appear in the film.

Reeves posted this on Twitter as the announcement was made. The #EdwardNashton hashtag is the Riddler’s name in the film.

Dano was nominated for an Emmy this year for his performance in Showtime’s “Escape at Dannemora.” He has also appeared in Prisoners, 12 Years a Slave, and There Will Be Blood.

Warner Bros. will release The Batman on June 25, 2021. It goes into production next year.
