Dan Aykroyd: Original Cast Has Finished Filming ‘Ghostbusters 2020’

In a new interview, actor Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that the surviving cast of the original Ghostbusters have finished filming their scenes for the upcoming sequel to the classic film.

As a guest on the Greg Hill Radio Show on Friday, Aykroyd said he, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts had all finished filming their scenes for the new film, currently titled Ghostbusters 2020. Ernie Hudson, who played Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore, had also been confirmed as returning. However, it is not clear why Aykroyd didn’t mention him. An audio clip of his comments are provided below.

Harold Ramis, who played Ghostbuster Egon Spengler, died in 2014.

Aykroyd also said that Ramis, who co-wrote the original Ghostbusters with Aykroyd, would get a tribute in the new film.

“I miss him a lot. He was, of course, a really intelligent, great writer and collaborator,” Aykroyd said of Ramis. “We paid tribute to him in the movie that Paul Feig made with the girls, he was there in a bust…So, we paid tribute to Harold there, and of course, we’ll recognize him in this film in some way, however small.”

A bust of Ramis was featured as an “Easter Egg” in the 2016 reboot directed by Paul Feig. It starred Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Melissa McCarthy.

Aykroyd said he and Bill Murray appeared in the 2016 all-female reboot because they “believed in that vision.” However, the new film will reportedly not reference the spinoff.

Ivan Reitman directed the original Ghostbusters in 1984 and the 1989 sequel. However, a third film never got off the ground, until now.

In 2009, however, the four lead Ghostbusters actors provided voices for their characters in “Ghostbusters: The Video Game.” Many fans treated itas a direct sequel to the first two films.

New Names For The 2020 Film

Ivan Reitman’s son Jason Reitman is directing the new film. It will focus on a new cast of characters, however, played by Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Logan Kim, and Paul Rudd.

The plot has not been revealed, but it is believed the original cast will be in supporting roles for the third film.

Here is a clip of Dan Aykroyd’s comments on the Greg Hill Show.

Ghostbusters 2020 will open in theaters on July 10, 2020.
