The New ‘Rise of Skywalker’ Poster Treats the Original Trilogy Like a Pinata

Kylo Ren, the emo villain of Disney’s Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, famously said to kill the past, if you have to.

Now, in a new poster for The Rise of Skywalker, Ren is literally treating the main figure of the Original Trilogy like Whack-a-Mole.

Today, the official Star Wars social media accounts posted an image of a new poster for the final installment in the Skywalker Saga, and it features the destruction of Kylo Ren’s Darth Vader shrine.

It shows Vader’s burned helmet being shattered by the lightsabers of Kylo Ren and Rey, in a striking image taken from a scene in the film’s trailer.

Here’s the poster.

The image, though striking, is seen by many as a metaphor for Disney’s treatment of Star Wars since they acquired Lucasfilm. Not counting Baby Yoda and The Mandalorian, of course.

Some couldn’t help but point out that this new trilogy is not their Star Wars.

So far, no additional Star Wars icons have been destroyed by Sequel Trilogy characters. At least not today.
