‘Morbius’ Drops First Trailer – With a Surprise Cameo (VIDEO)

The first Morbius trailer was released today, providing our first look at Jared Leto – and a familiar face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The trailer is featured below, after which you can read our thoughts on the cameo.

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen this summer when Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius.

Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.

Morbius is directed by Daniel Espinosa, from a story by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The screenplay is by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway. It is, of course, based on the Marvel Comics character.

The film is produced by Matt Tolmach, Avi Arad, and Lucas Foster. Louise Rosner serves as Executive Producer.

The film also stars Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.

Morbius opens July 31, 2020.

Here is the trailer.

As you can see, the appearance of Michael Keaton’s character from Spider-Man: Homecoming, Adrian Toomes (The Vulture), hints at a possible future appearance of The Sinister Six, the supervillain team-up that gave Peter Parker fits in the comics.

With Venom and Mysterio already looming out there, we now have more than half of the Six in the MCU. It’s an interesting mini-universe being built by Sony’s Marvel characters, and it could set-up some fantastic Spider-Man sequels. Since the Sinister Six had several incarnations, it remains to be seen who will fill out the roster.
