‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ Coming to Disney+ 2 Months Early (VIDEO)

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is making its premiere on the Disney+ streaming service much sooner than expected.

Disney announced today that the final chapter in the Skywalker saga will debut on Disney+ on May 4, widely celebrated around the world as Star Wars Day.

The premiere of the film on the service is two months ahead of the studio’s planned schedule, but comes as many of their other films, including Onward and Frozen 2, are seeing shortened release windows due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Dubbed “May the fourth be with you”, Star Wars Day will be celebrated on the service with additional programming, including the premiere of the “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian” documentary series and the final episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In addition, the look of the listings for Star Wars films on the service will change, as the artwork will shift to include original concept paintings by Ralph McQuarrie and Doug Chiang.

Disney released this video announcement of the availability of the complete Skywalker saga beginning May 4.
