BETRAYAL: Dave Filoni Blasts ‘Star Wars’ Fans, Luke Skywalker in New Video

Dave Filoni, the creator of the acclaimed series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and executive producer of “The Mandalorian,” has been hailed by fans as a hero and gatekeeper of the Star Wars franchise. A new video is likely to change that.

Filoni has been seen as someone loyal to the principles and legacy George Lucas built, which has been discarded and defiled by Kathleen Kennedy and the Disney regime that now controls Lucasfilm.

However, a new video of remarks Filoni gave to a women’s group is already causing outrage among fans.

The website Disney Star Wars Is Dumb broke the story with the video.

Filoni was giving a speech to The National Center for Women and Information Technology, and video of his comments included statements claiming that critics of Disney’s Sequel Trilogy were sexist. He laments about “older fans complaining” about their introduction of female leading characters, Ahsoka Tano (of ‘The Clone Wars’) in particular.

Filoni seems to forget that the initial criticism around the Ahsoka character was well deserved. In The Clone Wars movie and early episodes of the series, Ahsoka was an annoying and pointless character, who tended to do nothing but cause problems for Anakin Sywalker.

However, as the writing for the series improved, so did Ahsoka’s character development, and she became a favorite of fans, both young and old, and regardless of gender. Even though Filoni claimed that there was a fan uprising against Ahsoka because she was female, that wasn’t the case at all. Instead, it was the support of older, mostly male fans that eventually embraced the Ahsoka character and supported the movement that brought back “The Clone Wars” for a final season.

Regardless, Filoni seems dismissive of the fans that have supported his work. He conflates criticism of the Sequel Trilogy with sexist trolling, and claims that male fans were upset that the female characters of Rey and Jyn Erso were the main protagonists. On the contrary, Rogue One has been widely praised by male and female fans. The criticism has been largely directed at the shallow, uninspired writing in the Disney films.

He then goes on to defend Rey’s sloppy and shoddy character development, dubbed the “Mary Sue” effect by detractors.

Worst of all, he mocks the Luke Skywalker character in the Original Trilogy, and diminishes him by saying “all he did was open that door and Leia out and she just went gangbusters.”

Here’s video of his comments.
